<p>To know your healthy cholesterol level, you must know what is HDL Cholesterol?  HDL cholesterol is known as “good cholesterol or Healthy Cholesterol” because HDL cholesterol tends to collect the bad cholesterol from the arteries and takes it back to the liver, where it’s passed from the body.   Some experts believe that HDL removes excess cholesterol from plaque in arteries, thus slowing the buildup.  So high level HDL cholesterol seems to protect against atherosclerosis /heart attack that’s why HDL is known as “good cholesterol.” So that’s means healthy cholesterol level is if your HDL Cholesterol level is higher and LDL cholesterol lever is lower.</p>
<p><strong>HDL cholesterol good range levels</strong>:</p>
<p><span />Higher is better for HDL.  For HDL, the numbers are lower because there is less HDL in the blood.<br />
Lower than 35 milligrams/dl means you&#8217;re at higher risk for heart disease.<br />
60 milligrams/dl or higher, your risk of heart disease is reduced<br />
<strong>Normal Range of Cholesterol Levels for LDL cholesterol levels<br />
</strong>100 mg/dL is the optimal level<br />
Less than 130 mg/dL is best (near optimal for most people).<br />
Between 130 to 159 mg/dL is borderline high.<br />
160 mg/dL or more means you&#8217;re at higher risk for heart disease.</p>

Canola oil is a popular oil, with many physicians<br />
claiming that it has the ability to lower the risk<br />
of heart disease.  The oil is low in saturated fat,<br />
high in monounsaturated fat, and offers the best<br />
fatty acid composition when compared to other oils.</p>
<p>You can use canola oil in sauting, as a marinade<br />
and even in low temperature stir frying.  It has<br />
a bland flavor, which makes it a great oil for foods<br />
that contain many spices.  Unlike other oils, this<br />
one won&#8217;t interfere with the taste of your meal.</p>
<p>2.  Olive oil<br />
olive oil offers a very distinct flavor with plenty<br />
of heart healthy ingedients.  The oil is rich in<br />
monounsaturated fat, helps to lower cholesterol<br />

in antioxidants and has a very long storage life.</p>
<p>Even though it can be used in cooking, it&#8217;s the<br />

sure to avoid high heat.</p>
<p>3.  Butter<br />
Butter is one food that has been around for many,<br />
many years.  Butter tastes good, and offers sources<br />
of Vitamin A and other fat soluble vitamins such as<br />
E, K, and even D.  Butter is also made from natural<br />
ingredients and not chemically or artificially<br />
processed.</p>
<p>You can use butter with cooking, baking, or even as<br />

marinades, baked dishes, or even bread.</p>
<p>4.  Margarine<br />
Margarine was first introduced as an alternative to<br />
high fat butter.  When it was first created however,<br />
it was loaded with trans fat, a substance that we<br />
now know raises bad cholesterol.</p>
<p>As a cooking oil, margarine tastes good, it&#8217;s lower<br />
in fat than most oils and butter, and it&#8217;s quite<br />
easy to spread.  It&#8217;s available in a variety of<br />
different products and a good source of vitamin E.</p>
<p>When it comes to cooking with oils, there are<br />

<p>Eating healthy is something we all would like to do,<br />
although it can be hard.  In order to eat healthy, you<br />
must first make the right food choices.  Eating healthy<br />
is all about what you eat, which makes the choices very<br />
crucial to your results.</p>
<p>Grains<br />
You should consume 6 ounces of grains per day.  To do this,<br />
you can eat 3 ounces of whole grain cereals, breads, rice,<br />
crackers, or pasta.  You can get an ounce of grains in<br />
a single slice of bread, or 1 cut of cereal.</p>
<p>Vegetables<br />
These should be varied, as you should eat 2 1/2 cups of<br />
them each day.  You should start eating more of the dark<br />
vegetables, such as broccili and spinach.  Carrots and<br />
sweet potatoes are good as well.  You should also eat<br />
more dry beans such as peas, pinto beans, and even kidney<br />
beans.</p>
<p>Fruits<br />
Fruits are very important.  You should try to eat 2 cups<br />
of them each day.  Focus on eating a variety, such as<br />
fresh, frozen, canned, or even dried fruit.  You can<br />
drink fruit juices as well, although you should use<br />
moderation when doing so.</p>
<p>Milk<br />
Milk is your calcium rich friend.  For adults, 3 cups<br />
is the ideal goal.  For kids 2 - 8, 2 cups is where you<br />
want to be.  When choosing milk products or yogurt, you<br />
should go for fat-free or low-fat.  Those of you who<br />
don&#8217;t like milk or can&#8217;t have it, should go for lactose<br />
free products or other sources of calcium such as fortified<br />
foods and beverages.</p>
<p>Meat and beans<br />
Eating 5 ounces a day is the ideal goal, as you should go<br />
lean with your protein.  When eating meat, always bake it,<br />
grill it, or broil it, as this will prevent grease from<br />
adding to the equation.  You should vary your protein<br />
as well, with more fish, beans, peas, and nuts.</p>
<p>When cooking your food, you should also limit solid fats<br />
such as butter, margarine, shortening, and lard.  These<br />
foods may add flavor to your dishes, although they can<br />
also help raise your cholesterol as well.  Therefore, you<br />
should try to add these foods and any foods that happen<br />
to contain them.</p>
<p>To help keep your saturated fat, trans fat, and sodium low,<br />
you can check the nutrition facts label.  This label can<br />
be found on the food package and will tell you all the<br />
information you need to know about the food item.</p>
<p>By picking your foods wisely and watching what you eat,<br />
you&#8217;ll help control your lifestyle.  Exercise is great as<br />
well, as it goes along perfect with a healthy eating<br />
lifestyle.  No matter what your age may be, eating healthy<br />
will help you keep your active lifestyle for years and<br />

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>If you are like me, you’ve got some seriously high cholesterol.  It can be a little scary when your doctor takes one look at your blood work lab results and gasps.  I need to have a little chat with my doctor about keeping a good poker face.  I think he’s just out of medical school, and is still working on his bedside manner, but that’s all beside the point.  The point is, high cholesterol is a serious matter, and really increases your chances of developing heart disease and/or having a stroke.</p>
<p>So what is cholesterol anyway?  And why is having high cholesterol so bad?  Here comes the scientific explanation, so bear with me.  Cholesterol is a chemical compound present in high amounts in animal cell membranes.  It helps to keep the membranes of your cells ‘fluid’, which is important for reasons that are too complicated for the scope of this discussion.  Because it can slip into and out of cell membranes, it also acts as a sort of transport molecule.  By attaching to proteins and other molecules that normally would be unable to pass through a cell membrane, cholesterol allows these compounds to enter the cell.  Additionally, it is a vital component part to more complicated proteins and enzymes, including steroid hormones. </p>
<p>That all makes cholesterol sound pretty good, and it actually is.  Without it, we would not be able to live.  Unfortunately, cholesterol has one little nasty problem associated with it.  It has a tendency to get stuck in blood vessels.  When it gets stuck in blood vessels, other cholesterol molecules get stuck to the first ones, so on and so forth until the blood is completely blocked.  A blocked blood vessel in most parts of the body is not really a big deal, and happens all the time.  However, a blocked vessel in a crucial part of the heart or brain is more serious and can lead to heart attacks and strokes, respectively.  Having high cholesterol increases the chances of these events occurring.</p>
<p>So what can you do about high cholesterol?  First of all, see a doctor.  Many forms of high cholesterol can be reduced to safe levels just by committing to regular exercise and the right diet.  Though it was long thought that high cholesterol was caused primarily by a poor diet, it is now known to have strong genetic components.  More serious forms of high cholesterol may need to be treated with medication.  Only your doctor can help you to determine if you should consider taking such a medication.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>If you’re like me and have really high cholesterol, you’ve probably asked yourself a number of questions such as; “How do I lower it?  What are the risks of high cholesterol?  And what is cholesterol anyway??”  Most people focus their attention on ways of lowering cholesterol without ever really knowing what cholesterol is.  While you certainly don’t need to know, being able to answer the question ‘what is cholesterol?’ may at least give you some better insights on why its important to keep it low, and how.  If not, it may at least help prepare you for a spot on Jeopardy. </p>
<p>So what is cholesterol?  Cholesterol is quite simply a class of aerobic chemical compounds that are mostly hydrophobic in nature.  So what the heck does that mean?  Well, if you never took organic chemistry or biochemistry in college, or never went to college, it doesn’t mean a whole lot.  Even if you took those classes, it still doesn’t tell you very much. </p>
<p>A better way to answer ‘what is cholesterol?’ is to focus on what it does.  The chief purpose of cholesterol is to provide animal cell membranes with a fluid, flexible quality.  Unlike plant cells, which are rigid, animal cells have to be able to bend and stretch without breaking.  Animal cell membranes consist of two layers of lipids, each with a hydrophilic head and long, hydrophilic tail.  The heads orient themselves towards the watery cell interior, and the watery exterior of the cell, while the tails line up in the relatively water free center.  Cholesterol, which is mostly hydrophobic, thus prefers being in the center area of the membrane, and is small enough to flow through this center area freely.  The flow of cholesterol molecules through the interior areas of a cell membrane provides the membrane with flexibility. </p>
<p>Cholesterol is therefore vital to animal life.  It is transported throughout the body in lipoprotein carriers that fall under a few different classes.  The two general classes are high-density lipoproteins (HDL) and low-density lipoproteins (LDL).  It is the LDL carriers that pose health risks in high levels by getting stuck along arteries, and not actually cholesterol. </p>
<p>When people ask me ‘what is cholesterol?’ that’s usually what I tell them.  I also tell them that it is an essential building block of several hormones, and is naturally produced by the liver.  While our diets typically have plenty of cholesterol in them, the liver will naturally be able to meet all of our cholesterol needs without getting any from food.  Therefore, you can never eat too little cholesterol.  So, the next time someone asks you ‘what is cholesterol?’ you know what to say. <br />

<p>Of course, the first thing you should do is talk to your doctor.  Depending on your age, family history, and how high your cholesterol really is, you may need to be on medication and take more serious steps toward reducing your cholesterol.  Even if your doctor determines that you should be on medication, he or she will probably also recommend both frequent exercise and a low cholesterol diet. </p>
<p>For a long time it was thought that high cholesterol was caused primarily by eating too many fatty and high cholesterol foods.  We now know that this is not really true.  Cholesterol has more to do with genetics and your level of activity (or inactivity) that your diet.  However, diet still is an important aspect of your cholesterol, and a low cholesterol diet is an effective compliment to exercise and today’s medications. </p>
<p>A cholesterol diet should be focused on a few things.  The most obvious being avoiding too much cholesterol in what you eat.  This is a bit more complicated than it sounds, however, because you want to avoid ‘bad’ cholesterol or LDLs (which stands for low density lipoproteins).  HDLs (high density lipoproteins) are a ‘good’ form of cholesterol that you actually want to eat plenty of.  It’s not as complicated as it sounds, however.  Most foods that are high in saturated fat are also high in LDLs.  Fatty meats, butter, lard, heavy pastries, greasy sauces, these kinds of things all are high in LDLs and should be avoided or eaten in small quantities if you are on a cholesterol diet. </p>
<p>Ask your doctor or a nutritionist about foods high in HDLs, as there are lots of them.  Some nuts, avocado, and dark chocolate are some examples.  Even more important than eating lots of HDLs is getting plenty of fiber in your food if you are on a cholesterol diet.  Fiber is a proven way to lower cholesterol, so you should round out any cholesterol diet you try with plenty of roughage (ie; salads and stringy green stuff minus the ranch dressing).  Also, oatmeal or anything with oats or whole wheat is great for fiber.  If all else fails, there’s always fiber supplements, but its better to get it from food.<br />
